Hi My name is Justin and I am making a web site called Y2K for Kids and Teens. I made this web site because kids and teens are either not getting information on y2k or they are getting misleading information about Y2K or Year 2000 bug.
Q: Will the federal Goverment be ready for Y2K??? A: No the federal Goverment will not be 100% complient. Q: Do we need to store food and water??? A: Yes you do need to store food and water because the grocery store will be out of food when the factory's stop producing food. Q: Will the electricity go out??? A: Yes the electricity will go out because the binary chip in the computers will read 00 as in 1900 and it will totally shut down because they will think that they have not been serviced in 1000 years! Q. What's the government doing about Y2K?
A. Some agencies like Social Security have been quietly working on Y2K for a while and aren't done yet. Unfortunately, several agencies started within the last year or two, making it unlikely they'll finish in time. We're concerned that --again-- contingency planning is being put off to last, even though most experts believe not everything will get done in time. Also, the systems nature if the problem is down played. They often use the term "mission critical" when describing the work and progress they're making. "Mission critical" means that only some systems are being fixed, not all. Given the degree of interconnectedness and interdependency, "non-mission critical" systems can prevent "mission critical" from working. The President formed the Year 2000 Council in the spring of 1998, with John Koskinen at the head. Several Senate and Congressional subcommittees are looking at the problem. As of today, however, very little factual information is being released to the public, what information is discussed is couched in very optimistic terms known as 'happy talk'. They're very concerned that serious and open discussion of the problem will 'panic' people. This means they are afraid people will pull all their money out of the banks, sell off stocks, close retirement accounts, etc., thereby causing economic problems for the country. Q: What will happen to the US nuclear power plants??? A: The nuclear power plants will be shut donw on July 1, 1999 if they are not compliant. They shut them down this early so that they can cool beacause the reactors can get really hot while creating fizzon. That means it is possible to have a power shortage on July 1st,1999. Q: How do you purify water??? A: You can purify water by goig down to the store and buying a purifier. Make sure you get one that kill bacteria, microorginisms, and fungus. The second way to purify water would be to boil it. Q How can I get water if my water system is corrupt??? A: First you can buy a sponge and go outside in the morning and go find some grass, leaves or greenery and you can soak up the water from the morning dew. Another way to purify water would be to dig a hole in the ground and cover it with plastic. The heat from the sun will pull up water from the ground and it will be on the plastic. Or if it rains collect rain water in buckets. Q: How do I store water? A: You can store water by buying a 15, 30,or 55 gallon tub and keep it in a place thats not too hot and where it's dark and humid. A basement or a garage might be an ideal place depending on where you live. You will also need to rotate the water. Q: How much water should I store??? A: You can never store enough water. There is a rule called the 4 4 4 rule. It means You can live 4 minutes without oxygen. You can live 4 days without water and 4 weeks with out food. So obviosly you have air around you. So the next thing would be water. You should have at least 100 oz. of water each day, for drinking and cooking and medical emergencies PER PERSON. So if you have 4 people in your household you shouldstore 400 oz per day for AT LEAST 3 months. Then you have to store 30 oz for dogs and cats per day for at least 3 months. And after that your dog will be acustom to drinking swimming pool water if you have a pool. If you have a smaller animal like snake, bird or mouse you should store 8 oz per day. Q: How do I cook food if my power is out??? A: You can buy a solar powered oven or a dutch oven. Q: What kind of medical supplies should I get??? A: You should get a couple rolls of gauze. You should have a first aid kit and someone in your family should know CPR and the heimlic maneuver. I am going to help you prepare for Y2K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!So if you wouldn't mind others may have the same questions that you may have so if I could Publish the questions you send on the web site It would be very apriciated. I need lots of imfromation so the kids and teens of america will be y2k alert.
I'm from California, USA.
You should prepare for Y2K By...
Go to the store and buy some rechargable batteries for electronical games ect.
You should also get some dried or dehydrated foods. Dehydrated foods can last up to 15 years. If you want to buy some dehydrated foods go to...
You should also but a non-electric can opener. Buy a dutch oven. A dutch oven is a portable oven that reqires no plugs for electricity that cost from $12-$40. This will help you prepare some meals. There won't be any MTV so you should find a hobby such as Bycicling or skating. Grow a garden. your garden should include foods that everone in your family will eat and like and they should be nutritional. If you have any information you would like to send me I would be happy to put it on my site. You can ask my dad questions on dehydrating and dryng [email protected]
This is my dad's site and I would like it if you'd just go take a look about dehydrated foods. The High Price of Y2K

One way of maintaining some form of contact within your family or the outside world is - a CB Radio and/or a Family Channel walkie-talkie. Of course, you must make sure than none of these will be affected by the Y2K problem. As a backup, you can always use children's walkie-talkies, as they're the most likely to work. However, they are only toys. Don't count on them for any significant use. (And make sure you have adequate batteries!)
My messageboad is for kids and teens who have questions they want everyone who visits this web site to see!
